On Saturday August 16, part of the BuyPlaya Real Estate Team had the chance to attend a beautifully done charity dinner in Akumal!
This special event was created as a fundraiser for the local Red Cross in order to pay for the Akumal community to have its very own ambulance. Hosted at Lolha (one of Akumal’s most most popular restaurants), attendees enjoyed an evening with a lovely beachfront atmosphere, excellent cuisine and live music by the Salty Snowbirds.
Overall, the charity dinner raised over $21,000 pesos toward 24-hour ambulance service for Akumal. Currently, the town is only served by one ambulance from the nearby town of Tulum. Having a 24-hour ambulance exclusively for Akumal would mean significantly lower response times in Akumal and Tulum alike.
Many Akumal locals and expats were present at Lolha for the Red Cross charity dinner, in addition to the BuyPlaya Real Estate team, local Red Cross employees and attendees from Playa del Carmen, as well. During the dinner, we saw short presentations by architect Oscar Carreno Samso on the new Red Cross facilities in Tulum, and from Hector Juarez Garcia on the benefits of having a full-time ambulance in town and the necessary expenses.
Throughout the evening, the Salty Snowbirds duo (Natalie Novak Perez and David Belile) serenaded us with fun and beautiful music, the perfect way to enjoy a memorable dinner by the ocean on one of the Riviera Maya’s most gorgeous beaches.
The dinner itself was excellent, with great service and mouthwatering dishes like chile relleno, poblano chicken and some pretty amazing churros and ice cream.
After dinner, a gorgeous handmade coral necklace by Margot Joyeria Akumal was auctioned off, with 100% of the bid going directly to the Akumal ambulance fund.
Overall, the Red Cross charity dinner was a great way to see how the people of the Riviera Maya can come together to support a great local cause. We’re so proud to be a part of this incredible community!
