Wah Wah Beach Bar had a packed house on Wednesday night!
After a sold out opening night in Tulum that raised over $9400 pesos for the local Red Cross, the Akumal Comedy Festival hosted its second night of stand up comedy shows under the huge palapa of Wah Wah Beach Bar on Calle 2 in Playa del Carmen. All of the tables, chairs and barstools were filled, and after a bit of a delay (hey, we’re on Mexican time here!) the show was underway.
Playa del Carmen resident and comedian Craig Norton did a great job kicking off the show as the night’s MC, making sure to mention the incredible efforts from the people behind the Akumal Comedy Festival, even bringing Marieke Brown onstage for some recognition and good-natured teasing.
Throughout the night, the huge crowd was roaring with laughter at every single joke. Comedians Maggie Faris, Al Klemick, Danny Lobell, Playa del Carmen local Luke Bugeaud, and Darryl Lennox all took to the stage, each with their own brand of comedy and all well-loved by the audience.
Headliner Chad Daniels was the big hit of the evening, closing out the second night of the Akumal Comedy Festival with bits about marriage advice and raising teens. There were a few hecklers in the audience, but Chad handled them like a true pro!
The last night of the Akumal Comedy Festival is TONIGHT, with two shows in the beautiful beach town of Akumal. The Spanish-language show will be at 7:30pm at El Ultimo Maya in Akumal town, with a donation cost of only $50 pesos at the door. The final show will feature “The Best of the Fest” performances at La Buena Vida bar on Half Moon Bay. (Look on the Akumal Comedy Festival website for more details.) This last show is for adults ages 18 and up due to the adult nature of the show; cost is $150 pesos at the door.
Remember that every peso of your entrance cost goes straight to the local Red Cross! The Tulum Red Cross Center has done amazing things with donations from previous years of the Akumal Comedy Festival, which you can read about here.
We hope to see you tonight in Akumal! Come out for a night of incredible comedy and a fun atmosphere in the Riviera Maya.
